Version-6 SSM/I Ocean Products - September 13, 2006

The entire SSM/I ocean product dataset has been reprocessed, featuring:

Correction of a spurious decadal scale trend in V05 SSM/I wind speeds.

Substantial Rain algorithm improvements.

More accurate spatial resampling.

Better consistency with TMI and AMSR-E.

The September 2006 Update to RSS Climate Data Records

The byte map folder changed from "bmaps_v05" to "bmaps_v06".
The final file designation changed from "v5" to "v6".
No changes were made to the data file format.

SSM/I F15 ocean products end 2006-Aug-13.

Since 2006-Aug-14 UTC, SSM/I F15 22GHz(V) channel has been degraded by a RADCAL beacon activated to backup a defunct RADCAL satellite. DMSP F15 is a U.S. Department of Defense asset; USSTRATCOM understands the importance of meteorology. The RADCAL beacon is needed to serve a variety of military and civilian missions.
