The article "Capability of the SMAP mission to measure ocean surface winds in storms" by T. Meissner, L. Ricciardulli, and F. Wentz has been accepted for publication in the Bullettin of the American Meteorological Society. SMAP is a NASA mission launched in January 2015 designed to measure soil moisture, but has been proved capable of measuring ocean surface winds. Comparisons of SMAP winds with measurements from other space-based instruments (ASCAT, WindSat, ISS-RapidScat) and airborne radiometers (SFMRs) are discussed.
This is an online early release version. The printed version is planned for the September 2017 issue.
